Swedish term

Limfärg

Swedish to English Other Construction / Civil Engineering Painting, decorating
From a description of a traditional farmhouse, painted and decorated in the mid-19th century: "limfärgstryckta papperstapeter" - wallpaper printed with "limfärg".

The paint base is a glue made from flour and water, with pigment added. I have seen "size paint" but it does not have the well-worn ring of "limfärg".

distemper

From Gullberg's and Engström's. Size paint is also given as well as whitewash, colour wash, limewash, but on online search suggests distemper is the one to go for, although it's not my specialist area.
