Catalan term

CONVENI DE VINCULACIÓ

Catalan to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s) Research agreement
CONVENI DE VINCULACIÓ D’ACTIVITATS DE RECERCA ENTRE XXXX I EL SR/A XXX.

This is an agreement which defines the relationship between an external researcher and a research institute. The "persona vinculada" or "investigador/a vinculat/da" is not a paid employee of the research institute, but collaborates with another researcher on a specific project.

Ok, so I had called this an "association agreement" and the "persona vinculada" or "investigador/a vinculat/da" the "associate" or "research associate", but I now see that a research associate is a paid position. It sounds to me like a fellowship agreement, but I can't find any evidence linking (pun intended ha ha) these two terms. The terms vinculació, vincular, vinculat, etc. are scattered throughout the text so I need something that works in more than just the title...

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Affiliation agreement I have seen collaboration agreement in other documents I've translated for this same client, so I think they're trying to make a distinction here. Affiliation / affiliate / affiliated researcher works throughout and, according to my research, is a near perfect fit. Thanks a lot for your input though!!

@Lisa I saw your question earlier today but I wasn't in front of the computer and couldn't answer. How did you decide to translate the term?

I think 'collaboration agreement' might work.

Types of research contract (Agreement)
There are several types of contract (often referred to as agreements) associated with research. They vary according to the funder and the nature of the research.

Collaboration agreement

This agreement sets out the responsibilities, roles and rights of collaborating parties working in conjunction with the College on a specific research project or set of projects. All parties will be bound by the same terms and conditions, and the agreement will usually set out how the overall project will be managed between the parties. The agreement is often drawn up following a joint award/research funding agreement and the terms of this main award will often be reflected in the collaboration agreement. It may also contain funding terms, for example transfer of funding from the lead partner to the other collaborators, or the transfer of additional funding from a commercial partner.

A collaboration agreement is required for work involving at least one other research partner on a project.
