El obturador es la pieza que produce la apretura/cierre de la válvula. En una válvula globo el obturador normalmente es un disco plano. La forma no tiene mucha importancia si se usa solo como válvula de cierre (toda abierta o totalmente cerrada)
El "throttle plug" es un obturador diseñado para mejorar el desempeño de la válvula cuando se usa para regular el caudal (es decir en posiciones intermedias) y no solo como válvula de cierre.
