Spanish term

Por puerto de la región

Spanish to English Other Economics Statistical information -
Source text:

Rather than making a literal translation, in this case I would 'interpret' the meaning of the text:

'Analizing/Making an analysis of the ports in the region', 56% of the regional foreign trade was transported...

Thanks David!

And, I'd go with Robert's suggestion: "72% of the regional foreign trade was moved through the regional ports..."
Virginia Koolhaas Apr 9, 2018:
Región = América Latina (almost always) In my opinion, "Regional ports" and using the term "region" could be misleading, because when talking about "región" in most cases we're referring to "América Latina" (unlsess talking about a specific region within LATAM, eg. Southern Cone/Mercosur, etc) so I would translate it as "Latin American Ports" (if context actually is referring to that, which I presume it is).

I'd go more or less with your wording ("72% of the regional foreign trade was moved through the regional ports...") here, Lydianette, but "through the region's ports", as it seems to refer to a particular region, not "regional ports" in general.

forget the "the's" and ok Lydianette

My view from another angle:

"72% of the regional foreign trade was moved through the regional ports..."

The ports of the region were the gateway

Hi,
I think "por puertos de la región" means literally that those percentages of imports/exports were transported through the ports of the region (probably as opposed to by air or land). My proposal for this would be starting the paragraph with "The ports of the region were the gateway to 56%..."
I hope you find it useful.
Greetings,
Juan

From a 'regional ports' standpoint, ...

i.e., looking at the statistics from the point of view of the ports in the region.
