French term (edited): introduction d’un supplément d’intelligence

introduction of smart/intelligent components ... of intelligent behaviour

IN THIS ST it's about the production and distribution networks of renewable energies being more "intelligent":

Quels sont, selon vous, les principaux enjeux du développement des EnR ?

P. M. : Les ENR permettent de sortir d'un modèle énergétique carboné dont les effets dévastateurs sur notre environnement éclatent au grand jour. Une conjonction favorable permet aux EnR de prendre le relais : leurs coûts de production, notamment dans le cas du photovoltaïque, sont descendus sous le prix du marché de détail et la révolution numérique peut donner à nos réseaux un supplément d'intelligence pour gérer leur variabilité.

"intelligence" as in "smart meters" / delivery network that can optimize itself without much need for a dispatch/control center etc.
Peer comment(s):

neutral AllegroTrans : Whatever is wrong with simple "intelligence"? - it is a word extensively used in business to comprise all relevant info (market conditions, competition, etc. etc.)

because it could be easily misinterpreted (as you did BTW) - IN THIS ST it's about a different kind of "intelligence" - as explained in my answer: making the production and delivery system more "intelligent", NOT collecting "market intelligence".

data-based temporal optimization

This could also be referred to as an "intelligent" or "responsive" element.

The proposed translation is technically more accurate, and should be preferred unless the document is for marketing purposes.

For example, if something often happens at the same time of day, or if some form of spike/drop in energy usage has a strong statistical correlation with some other change, both smaller and larger parts of the system could prepare in advance for the most-expected conditions that would come soon after.

This could be based on raw energy production, transmission and usage data, in addition to easily-observed external sources such as spot prices of cross-jurisdiction sales.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Daryo : it's roughly the right idea, but it's too restrictive - the "intelligence" of the production/delivery grid probably includes all sorts of other optimisations.

Data-based optimization for the uses mentioned in the answer is not intended to imply that unmentioned areas are not addressed in some data-based optimization. For the context, things like investment procurement are not likely included ...
