16th percentile

English to Spanish Other Education / Pedagogy
But they may no be able to read higher than a 9 level, like a student of mine in Veterinary Medicine. This student also had an arithmetic reasoning in the 16th percentile. Yet he achieved 85% in honours math and science - with the needed accomodations.

It is a difficult term.

Percentile is basically a percentage for a percentage.

For example:

In a classroom, all the students took a test and they all got different grades; the 80% got grades under 80, the other 20% got 85, 90 or 100.

You were one of the students whose score was 80 or above; then you and the other 20% fall in the 80th percentile.

I know it is a little bit confusing but, you just have to meditate for a while and you will get the idea.

By the way, the translation in spanish would be: Percentil 16 o número 16.

percentil 16to

El percentil se expresa como un número ordinal.

En este caso, percentil décimo sexto.

He visto que también se usa primero el número y luego 'percentil' (décimo sexto percentil, por ejemplo), pero no se si es correcto.
