leading edge

I am not sure it will fit your context, but this is the term used in windsurfing, etc. In case it helps...

Guiding bank

You don't give much context; but if you are literally talking the dynamics of river banks and currents, then maybe you are looking for the "guiding" or "deflecting" bank.

If you are talking spatial geography then of course "outer" bank would be a good term
