English term

Special Provincial Administration Solid Waste Management Union

English to French Law/Patents Law: Contract(s) Public contracts
Salut,

Je révise un document sur les marchés publics mais j'ai un doute sur la traduction de "Union".

The contractor will be responsible for technical assistance and capacity building for xxx Municipalities and Special Provincial Administration Solid Waste Management Union

La phrase a été traduite comme suit:

Le contractant sera responsable de l’assistance technique et du renforcement des capacités des communes de xxx et de l’Union pour la gestion des déchets solides de l’administration provinciale spéciale.

Merci de votre aide

Discussion

B D Finch Oct 20, 2018:
@ph-b We have an even better (more academic-sounding) syndicat: SMECTOM = Syndicat Mixte d'Étude, de Collecte et de Traitement des Ordures Ménagères. However, that doesn't mean that the word "syndicat" should be used for the Asker's Turkish organisation.

Though capital letters indicate that this is a proper name, the fact that this is a Turkish organisation makes it unlikely that the English version should be treated as a proper name.

As this document has already been translated into French for an official European body, I think their translation should be taken as authoritative.

Ideally, of course, this should be translated from Turkish to French, rather than from an English translation to French.
Note from asker:
Thanks BD Finch but I beg to differ, Ted translations should not always be regarded as authoritative. I can't make sense of the "Union" part in the translation, even that of the ref provided

That's not necessarily bad. The question is whether this is an officially accepted translation.
agree AllegroTrans : I don't think you can do better than this and if Gilou knows better then he should post an answer
