ciclo ómnibus

Spanish to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
A text about a contemporary artist from Argentina:

El título que el artista elige para su muestra evoca intencionadamente el mítico ciclo ómnibus de cine que Canal 11 emitía los sábados a la tarde, SÁBADOS DE SUPER ACCIÓN, donde se alternaban de manera continuada clásicos y películas clase B de géneros como el western, policiales negros, comedias, documentales, musicales y de todo un poco.

ecletic?

Thanks

Agree And depending on what the artist's work is like, I might look for an option without "film/movie" in it, although the cultural reference in the original title might get lost along the way. Maybe somethng like "eclectic cycle/period" or even the literal "omnibus cycle" could work...?
Chema Nieto Castañón Oct 17, 2018:
Eclectic is a nice -maybe too nice- way to express it; the original tries to convey (I think) somewhere where anything might fit well with no seeming selection criteria.

Thank you!
agree Corbett AM : movie marathon even better than film marathon and more appropriate for Argentina (where people probably learn US Eng correct me if I'm wrong) - a nice bit of alliteration going on here too

Thanks! In Argentina most schools teach UK English, but business students often want US English.

all afternoon long

ómnibus refers to running time, un programa ómnibus is a show which runs for many hours, or for the whole afternoon, in the case of shows like SÁBADOS DE SUPER ACCIÓN or FELIZ DOMINGO in Argentina.

agree Marcelo González : In this context with a cultural referent, perhaps a more literal rendering such as this might be the way to go.

Movie Marathon/Film Marathon

Regarding this particular paragraph, the fact you have 'de cine' after ciclo omnibus in the source text means that film/movie should be in the translation of this paragraph surely, whatever the artist's own domain is.

S/he's using this idea of the tv channel's name for its movie marathon solely as inspiration for the title of an exhibition of his/her own work whatever that work is, so it should not take up too much focus or space.

Thanks Patinba for responding to that UK/US English comment relating to Argentina - you learn something new every day.
