With regard to the relationship between third states (not the original or parent state) and entities whose statehood they contest, the broad wording of the non-use of force principle has been acknowledged to prohibit any extraterritorial violent actions that cannot be justified as an exercise of the right to self-defense – whether the targeted state has been recognized or not.
