If several I-TS are switched parallel the stop signal will be provided to each I-TS by an auxiliary relay.
The current from the chopper will be switched off 20 ms after the DCU has triggered.
Because of this temporal overlap it is ensured that the reverse voltage of an active device under test won’t increase abruptly.
The discharge resistor of the DCU has a resistance of 2 Ohm and can absorb energy of 500 kWs.
To prevent the discharge resistor from getting destroyed the facility operator has to ensure that the active device under test (like an electric engine in reverse operation) is stopped automatically if the I-TS is stopped or switched off.
