English term

midpoint scattering

English to French Tech/Engineering Petroleum Eng/Sci seismic acquisition
Inline offsets are defined as Source Stations which could not be located in the original positions and are relocated to close “free” spaces between receivers along the line. From the technical point of view, they are very important in allowing the minimization of the detriment of the coverage, offset distribution and midpoint scattering

dispersion du point milieu

My understanding, allowing for the fact that this is flawed, non-native EN, is that this is all about 'scattering' of the midpoint — different detection positions causing spurious departures from what would otherwise be the 'natural' midpoint, with disparate readings causing the midpoint to become less clear / more diffuse.

Possibly also 'valeurs médianes', but we'd need more context to be sure about that one...
