cajetines de reserva

Hello!

I'm translating specifications to build concrete structures, and I've come across this term: "cajetines de reserva". Here is the context:

"Los moldes para reservas, también denominados cajetines para reservas (empleados en la creación de huecos para futuro alojamiento de pernos en segunda fase), se medirán por unidad de molde o cajetín (Ud.) de elemento embebido en el hormigón, de acuerdo con los planos".

I'm struggling with the "de reserva" part. Does anyone know what it might be referring to here?

Thank you @TomWalker. That would make sense. Do you know if there is a term builders use to refer to these molds, or would it be best to go with an "explanation-translation"?

Hi @Neil Ashby! They use both terms in the source text "cajetines de reserva" and "cajetines para reserva" so I think, in true engineer fashion, they really don't care much about prepositions XD.

I'm now pretty sure that what is being talked about here are small molds, like a jello mold, or like a small box with one side open, that are attached to the formwork when the concrete is placed, leaving small recesses in the surface of the concrete after placement. These strategically placed recesses can be used "para futuro alojamiento de pernos en segunda fase", for future placement of bolts in a possible second phase. In this way, the heads of the bolts, or the ends of the bolts with the nuts, will not stand up above the surface of the concrete.

In this link below they have a product Spanish description which mentions "moldes para reservas" http://www.tectonica-online.com/productos/1933/juntas_hormig...

In this other link, the same firm has the above product description in English, in which they translate the term to "molds for reserves"

If you notice, the original text mentions "moldes para reservas y vaciados", translated in the product's English counterpart as "molds for reserves and casts"

So, I imagine that "reserva/reserve" is sometime of cast, as they are mentioned together. Generally, a mold for a cast is a mold that you fill with some type of material, and you obtain a figure (a column, wall, tile, jar, piece, etc.)

neutral Thomas Walker : The question that's not being answered here is: What is meant in this context by "reserva"? "Molds for reserves" translates the words, but I don't think it means anything in English. Not to me,anyway, & I've spent most of my life around construction.

I have a feeling that what they meant by "reserva" is "repuesto" o "recambio", in the way that that mold is used for creating new/additional "clone" parts out of an original cast. Like some constructions have for columns. Who knows?
