Hi guys,

Hope you're all keeping well. Just struggling at little with this sentence. Is something missing and also is "Abgabewert" (possibly "issue value") a common financial term?

"Bei rund 140 Prozent Zuwachs liegt der Abgabewert der FIRMA-Aktie in den vergangenen 15 Jahren."

Also agreed... ...that the source text does look odd in several ways. Fact remains, however, that the moment actual trading commences, the 'issue price' by default does morph into another term already listed. So, a gain expressed 'relative to the issue price' or reflected by 'today's bid price'...
And lastly, there's no mention at all of the stock/shares being sold or even up for sale, disposal or delivery - just the relative shift in value.

Ted + Phil I fully agree that the sentence uses bad syntax and maybe meant something else. But that is no reason to give an answer to something else than what was asked. The other solution is that you include both terms and both definitions in the answert that will be shown on ProZ.

Ditto My thinking is the same as Phil's. That the author wrote a poorly constructed sentence trying to say that the shares have increased 140% above the issue price since they were issued 15 years ago.

I did read your answer but I'm suggesting there may be something wrong with the German, and the shares have increased by 140% since they were issued.

Phil + Ted You evidently did not read my answer. The issue price is when the share/stock was originally issued. It defintely cannot be the price after the share value has increased by 140%.

Error in source text? My first thought is that the author meant Ausgabewert, the issue price (at the IPO).

Could it be Ausgabewert, issue price? You could check by looking up when the shares were floated, and for how much.
