French term

c'est nul

Non-PRO French to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Hi. How can this be translated please? Thank you all so much.

C'est nul ce faux monde.

This is a junk of a false world.
This is a crappy false world.
This is a lousy false world.

Are c'est nullard, c'est nulos, c'est de la daube, c'est une saleté de faux monde, c'est une nullité de faux monde, translated the same as c'est nul ?

Feb 8, 2021 18:34: Rocío Tempone changed "Term Context" from "Hi. How can this be translated please? Thank you all so much. C\'est terrible ce monde. Quelle horreur. On vit dans le mensonge. On aime le mensonge. On rejette trop la vérité. On fait des choses très méchantes tout le temps et on est persuadé d\'être des blanches colombes. On est persuadé qu\'on n\'a jamais péché. C\'est dément ! C\'est trop nulle ce faux monde, cette illusion, cette soit disant réalité. On traite pas tous nos frères pareil. C\'est scandaleux, injuste, immoral, indignant. On est si immoral et on pense être des anges, des champions d\'la morale. Un comble! On ment constamment. On dit rarement ce qu\'on pense. On s\'auto-censure, on est archi hypocrite, on fait du mal à nos prochains et on a le culot de vivre persuadé qu\'on est des âmes bonnes. Nullement évidemment. Ouvrons les yeux, pantins ! C\'est nul ce faux monde. This is a junk of a false world. This is a crappy false world. This is a lousy false world. Are c\'est nullard, c\'est nulos, c\'est de la daube, c\'est une saleté de faux monde, c\'est une nullité de faux monde, translated the same as c\'est nul ?" to "Hi. Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (2): Daryo, Yassine El Bouknify

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

SafeTex Apr 21, 2020:
@ Jennifer and all Hello
I did ask a moderator to look at this but it means looking at a number of questions. In the meantime, if so many people answer the questions...

I wanted to say but somehow forget that I think the person is using the forum to pass a subliminal message to us.

I don't think theses are genuine questions

Regards

SafeTex
Jennifer White Apr 21, 2020:
@SafeTex Indeed there is, and I do think it is up to the moderators to put a stop to this. Merely playing games is just not on. Have made this point before, but these easy questions keep coming.
SafeTex Apr 19, 2020:
@all Hello all

If you check previous questions from the asker, the style is always the same and the questions are often asked in multiple language pairs at the same time.

I can't see any further discussion from the asker either (did a quick spot check). It's like the only important thing is to ask the question and the rest does not matter.

if you look at the previous questions, it is pretty obvious that there is a strange pattern here.

French term (edited): c\'est nul
Selected

This is a crappy fake world

I would use "fake" rather than false for a more natural sounding target term in EN.
Note from asker:

It's nil / zilch /zero

"this fake world is nil, zilch, zero"
Note from asker:
thank you very much for your help
Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : doesn't work "c'est nul" has little do do with "zero" // crappy / rubbish / idiotic / pointless .... is closer to the mark.

yes, my translation is too literal, I admit.

this phoney world is worthless/useless

Phoney as an alternative to fake, also highlights the pretentious and insincere nature of people that is suggested in the rest of the paragraph. Note Phoney might also be more mocking than fake.

Worthless / useless highlights the speaker's exaspiration.
Note from asker:
excellent help, thank you very much, very good analyze !!
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : ..and could even work with 'meaningless'

Thank you, and yes I agree! Worthless & Meaningless are equally.. bleak

This is a FAKE WORLD

Fake is the word that best fits here. Because false is mostly use for errors and mistakes. Fake is used mostly for actions, objects and it's an adjective.
Example sentence:

This is a Fake place
