English term

metterlo in pratica

English to Italian Other Food & Drink diets
Mindful eating promotes a heightened sense of control over what you take into your body without actually putting it into practice.

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): Tom in London, Fabrizio Zambuto

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Fabrizio Zambuto Jun 24, 2020:
the title should be 'putting into practice' and the pair is obviously English-Italian. It's confusing because the asker basically translated the kudoz term and turned it into the title, giving the impression that it was Italian English.
philgoddard Jun 24, 2020:
It looks like someone wrongly reversed the language pair, so I'm changing it back. I hope I'm right! Most of your previous questions have been English to Italian, and you put the English first.
The English doesn't make any sense to me, and I can't even guess at what they're trying to say.

ingested without control

Mindful eating promotes an increased sense of control over food intake ..

Instead of restraining it
Il sogetto dovrebbe essere il controllo
.. that would be otherwise ignored/ be out of control
Note from asker:

sorry that was very unclear. The translation i was asking about was for the phrase: Mindful eating promotes a heightened sense of control over what you take into your body without actually putting it into practice. The putting into practice in this context made no sense to me; I translated into:L'alimentazione consapevole promuove un maggiore senso di controllo sul cibo che metti in corpo senza metterlo in pratica. Makes no sense to me in italian

*leave it out!*

Mindful eating promotes a heightened sense of control over exactly what you are putting into your body.

I agree that this is badly written. For my sins, I often have to decipher such sentences! I think the writer was comparing it to when you *don't* eat mindfully. I would just leave that bit out and elaborate a little, as in my suggestion!
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : I'd put a translator's note saying the text is garbled.

agree Fiona Grace Peterson : Agree with this interpretation - the end of the sentence makes no sense

Mettere in pratica un'effettiva limitazione

L'alimentazione consapevole promuove un maggiore senso di controllo sul cibo che mangi, ma senza mettere in pratica un'effettiva limitazione.

Il verbo "to put into practice" immagino si riferisca al sintagma "sense of control"
