The sea painter is a manila line three times the length of the distance from the boat deck to the ship's light load line, not less than 2 3/4 inch in circumference. It is used to sheer the lifeboat away from the ship's side and to keep the lifeboat near the mother ship to pick up the remaining crew.

Boza/sea painter no es una amarra de proa que es para uso en puerto. Su punto de amarre en la balsa/bote/barco salvavidas varía según el diseño de este.
Según el BOE 4.1.6.1: El sistema de boza de la balsa salvavidas proporcionará un medio de unión entre el buque y la balsa y estará dispuesto de modo que impida que al soltarse la balsa salvavidas, y en el caso de una balsa salvavidas inflable, al quedar inflada, sea arrastrada hacia el fondo por el buque que se hunde.
