Discussion

Taña Dalglish Oct 29, 2020:
@ Sergio and odisea Thank you Sergio. @ Odisea: I would hesitate too (LOL). Perhaps, wait for other colleagues to chime in and see how they interpret the phrase, but Sergio has certainly confirmed my initial thought! It is very poorly phrased, IMO, and we don't have the benefit of context perhaps before or after that would clarify anything. Anyway, take care all and continue to be safe!
odisea (asker) Oct 29, 2020:
Hi, Taña.
I completely agree with your explanation; in fact, I wrote something similar in my Spanish version, but the text is certainly unclear and I that's why I hesitate...
Sergio Kot Oct 29, 2020:
@odisea I'm with Taña. Both proposals are innacurate and/or do not fit the context, while IMHO Taña's interpretation is accurate.
Taña Dalglish Oct 29, 2020:
@ odisea I believe a few of us are willing to lend a hand, but we really need more context... please! Regards.
Taña Dalglish Oct 29, 2020:
@ odisea "Run out of" is certainly a very unusual (I would venture to say inaccurate) way to phrase the sentence. I believe that what is meant is, "In early 2018, the company signed a partnership for in-home installation of television and furniture purchases ** in collaboration with *** 1,000 stores across the country ..". Is this your understanding too? Regards. P.S. Only more context, odisea, will confirm the meaning, if you have more, but personally, both proposals so far (not my job to critique the answers), but IMO, they are both inaccurate. What has been posted so far does not seem to imply that the stores are "running out" the stock to close down 1,000 stores! That is not the impression I have at all!

"run out of" is quite a standard English construction. I run a business out of my home, you can run a business out of a garage.

Thanks Taña Dalglish for your comment. 'En colaboración con' could also be right in this context.

My interpretation:

Peer comment(s):

agree Taña Dalglish : Yes, I think that is what the text is trying to convey (in the absence of context) - "se asoció con / en colaboración con...". Continue to stay safe, Mónica!
