French term
Jauge
French to English
Bus/Financial
Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs
This is a PowerPoint presentation from France about how to create a CV. The word "jauge" appears in bulleted phrases under the heading "Format Suggestions":
"Utiliser des éléments visuels: Jauge pour les compétences, picto pour les catégories…"
"Par jauge: simple à lire mais pas toujours précis"
It seems to refer to grouping, perhaps by skill, but none of the definitions given in my dictionary sources seem appropriate in this context. Any suggestions are appreciated!

indicator
Indicator is used in this article – a fairly neutral term
Example sentence:
They keep popping up more and more on the resumes of applicants: a list of skills with a form of level indicator. Some use a list of stars as an indicator, some use bullets and some even use words like basic, advanced and expert.

: Oh dear, I didn't know it exists, much less that it's a thing to avoid. Thanks, Anyway, indicator seems more generic than the ST's "picto" & "jauge."

guage
I'm familiar with the term as what is known as a "measurement rule" within the field of yacht racing. It also means "guage" as in your car to indicate how much fuel you have left, for example. Sticking to the idea of measurement, have you thought of using "guage"?

: Gauge not guage. (I think we submitted these simultaneously, sorry.)

I don't understand what they're suggesting, but observe these options:

: Unfortunately, mrrafe, some people are now using indicators like one would find for a battery to convey their skills in communication, Spanish, leadership, etc.

: Yes, for the spelling too of course! ;-) Pictograms/-grammes are often used to indicate categories.
