Norwegian term

omsetningslivet

Norwegian to English Law/Patents Law (general) Judgment
Hi, I'm having trouble finding the correct English translation for omsetningslivet - It appears in the following. Thanks for your help!

Det er hensynet til sikkerhet og forutberegnelighet i omsetningslivet som begrunner at en skyldner som er i en vanskelig økonomisk situasjon, etter omstendighetene likevel bør kunne fortsette å betale ordinære løpende utgifter. Reservasjonen for ordinære betalinger legger også til rette for at virksomheter som på lengre sikt har livets rett, kan fortsette driften ved forbigående økonomiske problemer.

Discussion

Not really a word I assume they mean "business" or "commerce"

Selected

the conduct of a business; the conducting of a business

Alternative: the conduct of one's business.
Alternative 2: the conduct of a given business.
Thus, sikkerhet og forutberegnelighet i omsetningslivet = security and predictability in the conduct of a business.
Explanation: I have incorporated the context, to the extent that seemed necessary to render the term in English.

Norwegian term (edited): i omsetningslivet

in the course of business life > and day-to-day dealings

- 'life' to collocate with: ...virksomheter som på lengre sikt har *livets* rett: right to live or survive as a trade or business and 'kan fortsette driften' > can carry on operating or dealing.
Example sentence:

: taking place, made, or done in the course of days in charge of day-to-day operations also : everyday day-to-day life

commerce

It seams that it is one of thos archaic legal terms that still are in use.
I means basicly commerce.

Eksample from non-legal source:
Mellom 1875 og 1895 oppstod det bare tre nye landhandlerier i bygda. I de neste tiårene steg omsetningslivet noe. I 1915 fantes i alt fjorten forretninger i Eidanger. De hadde en samlet omsetning på kr. 280 000. Disse butikkene var alminnelige landhandlerier. Stort sett solgte de bare vanlige forbruksvarer av forskjellig slag. Spesialforretningene lå i byene. Noe større omsetningsliv fantes ikke i Eidanger.
