Glossary entry (derived from question below)
English term or phrase:
10-mg-tablet product
German translation:
10-mg-Tablette
English term
10-mg-tablet product
"If lower doses are required, the 10 mg tablets product is more suitable option. The 10 mg tablets can be divided into equal halves of 5 mg."
The above English is poor, I know. However, even if we make it into:
"If lower doses are required, the 10-mg-tablet product is a more suitable option. The 10-mg tablets can be divided into equal halves of 5 mg."
....the question remains whether the following sounds too off in German: "Wenn niedrigere Dosen erforderlich sind, ist das 10mg-Tablettenprodukt eine geeignetere Option."
Or is there a better solution?
Thank you!

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Lirka, wie dem auch immer sei, das Englische ist auch nicht gerade berauschend. Trotzdem würde ich es so ausdrücken, wie in meiner Antwort angegeben ist.
Thanks, Edith. I know "Produkt" can be left out, but I wanted to know whether the "Tablettenprodukt" sounds as odd in German as it does in English. Sometimes, German likes such compound words, that's why I wasn't sure... Also, I believe that the English version was created from a German version (of a related product), so there must have been a word of this kind in the German version. |
