To reduce the direct impingement of cooling air that is inherent with a curved deflector (without installing new air ring plates) an extended lip can be used. This consists of a band of 18 gauge stainless steel (or other metal) that is press-fit into the inner diameter of the bottom air ring plate. Air flow is thereby forced upward, parallel to the bubble. Enhanced stability and higher die rates result. This concept can be used alone or in conjunction with any of the following bubble cooling techniques.
