When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

No, it is not an error. Certainly 'engage with' is also used, but here, I think it is used like this to suggest the asymmetry of the relation: if the trained volunteer engages the patient, that will mean that they have succeeded in getting the patient to engage with them; do you see what I mean?
If you engage with an idea, project, plan, etc., it means you want to be involved with it; this may happen if you find the idea 'engaging'.
You can 'engage with' someone / something — but they / it will 'engage' you.
Shouldn't it be "engage with"? Is it an error here? |

As to whether a volunteer can be involved in intervention: https://bmcpublichealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1...

Tony M
: 'Intervention' in EN tends to have a certain 'loaded' and often negative conotation that is absolutely unwanted here.

That’s over the top in my view Tony, but thanks for feedback. Intervention with compassion need not leave one with a morbid taste in the mouth.

: I agree with Tony, intervention is a bit stronger, goes further than simply involving them in social interaction.

Memory Visiting
Volunteer visits for people living with memory impairment in Halton.
It can be difficult to maintain friendships in the early stages of memory loss. Yet social connections are key to retaining communication skills and feeling happy.
Our wonderful Memory Visiting Volunteers are specially trained to engage people experiencing the early to mid stages of memory impairment due to dementia, stroke or injury.
They provide a friendly social connection outside of the client’s normal social sphere and will find activities or conversations that appeal to the client’s unique interests and abilities. This may involve looking at family photos, going out for a walk or simply sharing coffee and conversation. Visits usually happen once a week for 1-2 hours.

"1. If you engage someone in conversation, you have a conversation with them.
2. If you engage with something or with a group of people, you get involved with that thing or group and feel that you are connected with it or have real contact with it.
3. If you engage someone to do a particular job, you appoint them to do it."
