I remember hearing this several times in Germany in the 1980s but can't find it on the Internet for some reason. Needless to say I am looking for what people actually said rather than a literal translation.
It refers to the newspaper's alleged sensationalism. Certainly, I do remember a headline which ran "Die fünf schrecklichen Wunden Sadats" after the assassination of the Egyptian President.

auch eine Variante, mit schräg etwas "griffiger", finde ich, aber es gibt sicher auch noch andere Varianten.

BILD sprach zuerst mit dem Toten!
Ein ziemlich geflügeltes Wort. Musste mir jahrelang in diversen Pausenräumen immer aus der BILD vorlesen lassen. Während der unbezahlten Pausen.
