Thanks Dave - had some concern that "the shivers" would feel too modern.
agree Cynthia Coan : Whether "shivering" or "the shivers" works best depends on the intended target audience. "The shivers" is a somewhat lower register, fine for the general public, but "shivering" works better in a document aimed at medical professionals.
