UK. I'm revising and correcting the 2nd draft of an article that was submitted in British English and returned to the (non-native) authors by the journal, asking for clarification about some points. Although the journal's guidelines do not stipulate any particular variant of English, the draft returned by the journal is in a mix of US and UK English, and to make matters worse, whoever reviewed it in the journal has inserted errors (for example,"yelow" with one L. I know that American English usually avoids double consonants, but not in the case of yellow). The MS Word spellchecker is underlining "dissectable", and suggesting "dissectible", and my query is whether the distinction between the two forms is a UK-US thing, or if they are both acceptable in either variant. FWIW, the latter gets 140,000 hits and "dissectable" gets only 41,000, which usually indicates a UK-US difference, owing to the vast numbers of American English speakers. I'm just looking for confirmation.

they're just alternative spellings

Since, as you say, dissectible is by far the more common spelling, I'd stick with that. I can't find any evidence that it's a UK/US difference.

Note from asker:
Me neither, and I actually prefer "dissectible" anyway. After consulting with the client, we're submitting the UK English version again, with all the reviewer's errors corrected. |

dissectible is, while dissectable is capable of being dissected
As adjectives, the difference between dissectible and dissectable is that dissectible is, while dissectable is capable of being dissected.
