French term

1.10e3

French to English Medical Medical (general)
This is obviously some sort of measurement of the yeast found in this sputum culture but I can't find any instances of this measurement being used in English. Does anyone know the English way of saying this measurement? I can only find articles written by French speakers.

"ECBC retrouve une flore polymorphe peu abondante ainsi que des Levures à 1.10e3, ne modifiant pas la prise en charge thérapeutique."

1 × 10³

This is just an order of magnitude, so the use of a decimal figure is unlikely.
It would have been clearer if they'd simply written '1000'!
The use of 'e' or '^' to indicate an exponent is common in scientific literature, and dates back to the age of typewriters when actual exponents were not possible, as they are today (10³).

agree Jennifer Levey : Yes. The period in 1.10e3 is a multiplication sign, not a decimal point.

1.10 x 103 (with the 3 in superscript)

E ou e est utilisé dans la notation scientifique d'un nombre en notation décimale pour séparer la mantisse de l'exposant.

disagree Tony M : Right explanation, except I don't think this should be '1.10' — it's just '1 × 10³' — you've got one too many '10's

neutral philgoddard : If it were a decimal, it would be a comma in French.
