Baldacchino di Clemente VII :Costituito anticamente da un dossale raffigurante la Chiesa, un «cielo» (oggi disperso) con Dio Padre tra angeli e serafini e sette pendenti per il «tornacielo», il baldacchino era usato per coprire il trono papale.

I can't find a technical term for this either but would personally use side/lateral panels which you can't go wrong with. I also found 'drops' but that may be ambiguous as you also have the 'pendenti'.
