Japanese to English Social Sciences Geography Hokkaido address notation
I am confused by the usage of 外 in the following address for Hokkaido.

北海道夕張郡長沼町字幌内2032₋1外

What it the best way to address this when converting to English? Gai 2032-1 Kamiisogunkikonai-chō, Hokkaido? 1-2032 Kamiisogunkikonai-chō, Hokkaido? Outside 2032-1 Kamiisogunkikonai-chō, Hokkaido? Something else?

I think this is called 番外地 in Japanese.

From the English page:

Land not designated by the registry is known as mubanchi (無番地), with any dwellings there being bangaichi (番外地).

I haven't found an example of one being translated anywhere, but I think you would have several options. You could just transliterate the character as Gai, keeping it next to the number. You could put an X to designate that it is unnumbered like this 2032-1-X. You could also maybe write (Bangaichi) in parentheses if you wanted to be more explicit.

I hope now you will at least know what you are dealing with. I will try to get something more concrete for you when I have more time.
