La FIO2 alude al porcentaje de oxígeno en el aire inspirado. Cuando se suministra oxígeno al paciente la FIO2 será siempre superior al 21%, que se corresponde con el porcentaje de oxígeno en el aire ambiental. Dicho valor se expresa bien como 0.21 o bien como porcentaje (21%).
En el original se obvia el valor de la FIO2, señalando únicamente que es el propio del aire ambiental: "A'laire; sense oxigen", en referencia implícita a "respirando aire ambiental; sin administración externa adicional de oxígeno".
A la hora de traducir podría plantearse mantener la lectura algo más literal del original (FIO2: room air (without oxygen)") pero no parece necesario -ni particularmente recomendable, toda vez que la inclusión del valor (0.21) sólo refuerza, sin añadir en realidad ninguna información nueva o adicional, el mensaje original, que indica que al medir la saturación de oxígeno ésta se mide sin aporte adicional (externo) de oxígeno; y toda vez que fórmulas más literales resultarían -creo- harto extrañas en inglés.
