French term

panoramique de calibration

French to English Tech/Engineering Patents Optronics
Context:

Still with editing.
This has been translated as "- for the absolute orientation of the calibration pan" which does not convince me.
Panoramic calibration perhaps?
TIA Chris.

calibration scene

'Pan' evokes the action of panning a panorama, not the panorama itself.

As I understand it, a panoramic view can be used to calibrate cameras (whatever that means), so 'calibration panorama' makes sense to me at least.

However, looking into it all (my lead-in below) I observed the word 'scene'. There are quite a few instances of 'calibration scene' being used in relation to panoramic imaging

Calibration of panoramic sensors builds on traditional camera calibration techniques (e.g., in computer vision or photogrammetry). This section briefly introduces the subject, and provides a few general definitions.

Panoramic sensor calibration
This paper presents a new method of camera calibration for a panoramic stereovision sensor based on cylindrical projective geometry. The panoramic sensor allows us to get peripheral information about unknown environments, the architecture simplifies computation considerably. The device needs no calculation of epipolar lines. The calibration method derives directly from the benefits of the chosen architecture of the sensor and is not based on computation of vanishing points like former methods, which can only be an approximation and introduces uncertainty in the calibration process. Our calibration is based on the theory of projec tive vectors but uses simple geometry based on colinearity and orthogonality of vectors existing in the scene.

I know the authors are French, but have a look at this about calibrating cameras from panoramas: https://www.isprs.org/proceedings/xxxviii/part3/a/pdf/73_XXX...

The photos (panoramas) below from https://scholarcommons.scu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1... and https://arxiv.org/pdf/1804.05178.pdf are captioned as 'calibration scenes'.
