the use of "career" The word carreira applies to the "reparticao" I believe there is a distinction, not revealed in the section quoted from the Vienna Convention. There are persons who are designated as "honorary consuls" and if they have established a reparticao, then it would not be a "carreer" post . Years in the State Dept don't seem to help me in this case.

By the way, based on the Vienna Convention reparticao should be translate as "post.' Although within an Embassy people refer to the "consular section." But only within an Embassy.
