Как верно заметил Дмитрий Черепанов, речь идет о промывке катетера, чтобы удалить возможные (микро)частицы и воздух. Это стало понятно, когда читал инструкцию по Merit Prelude Choice™ Universal Hemostasis Valve Adapter hub (это первая ссылка в п.5 из моего ответа на hemostatic valve hub). INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
1. Flush the Prelude Choice prior to use - тут все ясно, что и зачем делается.

Preparation:
1. - Prepare a solution of contrast medium and normal saline in a small sterile bowl. Check balloon catheter and contrast medium instructions for specific contrast
mixture recommendations.
2. - Push the Press-to-Release lock lever to the left and hold. Aspirate desired amount of solution into the syringe. (Attach stopcock, if applicable.)
3. - Hold the device upright to purge the air from the syringe and connecting tube. Tap the syringe lightly, if necessary, to remove all the air bubbles and fill the
connecting tube completely.
4. – CAUTION: Inspect the syringe and tubing (and stopcock, if applicable) to ensure that the device has been completely purged of air bubbles.
5. - Adjust the syringe volume to the desired amount
= remove the air
