Japanese to English Bus/Financial Law: Taxation & Customs Tax filing
I have a couple of questions regarding a Japanese tax filing, the 所得税及び復興特別所得税の確定申告書B .

One of these has to do with the part where the taxpayer is asked to provide information on spouse and blood relatives (配偶者や親族に関する事項 ). The taxpayer is asked to provide some status info. One of these items is whether spouse or relative is living abroad (国外居住), and the choices given are 国外 and 年調. I understand that 国外 would mean that the person is indeed living abroad, but what exactly does 年調 indicate?

Normally, I would think that this is an abbreviated form of 年末調整, but that would not seem to make much sense here. Could this possibly mean that the person’s living abroad status has changed during the year? If so, how? Something else?

Any suggestions sincerely appreciated.

Year-end tax adjustment

This highly likely means year-end tax adjustment and "年調" doesn't mean it's an option compared to "国外" but likely a required field. As for what it means, it takes a look at the profit gained with tax deduction by the end of the year and the profit gained with tax withholding by the end of the year. If the profit gained with tax deduction is higher than with tax withholding, then extra tax is included and if it's less it is deducted. Hope this helps!
