Spanish term

crecí en una familia que me inculcó el trabajo

Spanish to English Other Other
I know inculcar can be inculcate or instill. But how would you put the phrase? I kind of think it sounds better to say "inculcated a sense of work" instead of just "work". What do you think? Or any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I grew up in a family that installed the work ethic in me.

"inculcate" is extremely formal and not used as much as "instill" IMO

Mike :)

neutral Jeanne Zang : so you meant instill, not install, right?

I agree with you. You have to add something - a work ethic, the importance of work, etc.

My family/folks put a lot of emphasis on the importance of work while I was growing up.

A very different approach :)

I agree with instill but I think ingrain is another very good option. Also, for the first part, you could say raised or brought-up too (I was raised by a family...)
