Swedish to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering
It's a strange expression: here is an explanation -
För situationen när båten går upp iplanande läge används tydligen termen "out of the hole".
Any ideas because I think that the boat goes out of the hole a lot quicker or words to that effect sounds silly.

so that the boat does not pitch

Norstedts: sätta sig = stampa = pitch
Peer comment(s):

neutral Roald Toskedal : I'd say that any boat/ship will be pitching, regardless of its characteristics regarding the 'dig-in'. Pitch is just one of the vessels 'degrees of freedom', together with heave, surge, sway, roll, and yaw.

so the boat does not sink (too far) into the water

Since an explanation follows, perhaps "sink into" is enough here. It relates the general idea.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Roald Toskedal : Mwaaaa, 'sink in' is kind of a passive act, whereas the motion described is an active one...
