Fortified and painted homes, real “clay castles” protect fetish and ancestor statues, (these dowels have inspired the Avant-Garde modern architects).
Y a-t-il un terme spécifique en français pour ce type de statues?
Merci

habitations (monuments ?)
if the text is to make sense there must be a mistake somewhere....
Ces maisons peintes et fortifiées, véritables châteaux d'argile abritent des fétiches et des statues des Ancêtres. Ces habitations (monuments ?) ont inspiré les architectes modernes avant-gardistes...
What about that ?

tige, cheville ou goujon
Dowels can have different meanings based on how they are used, so in this case it could be a "cheville" in this case made opf stone, so long and support -like

"Tata" dwellings
"We'll have a long travel day eventually following the mountain range of the Atakora, to eventually find ourselves in Somba country, the home of several separate but related tribes. The thing they have in common is the 'tata'- their dwellings built in the shape of small clay castles several storeys high. The definition of a man in Somba country is a male who has followed a long route of initiation rites and who owns his own traditional 'tata'. The hills of the region are dotted by these clay and thatch buildings that so enchanted the great Swiss architect Le Corbusier."
Discussion
Comme le mentionne Patrikfor, je pense qu'il y a une erreur et qu'il s'agit de "dwellings". Je vais le commenter au client.
Merci à tous!

"Fortified and painted homes, real “clay castles” protect fetish and ancestor statues"
I see the reference to "clay castles" in quotes as a way of saying 'proper little miniature clay castles' — and it does say they "...protect fetish and ancestor statues"; doesn't say anything about 'people' too ;-)
thanks... don't think anyone would describe a place as being "home", or "castle" if it was to be a place to protect statues... I bet they live in it.
@asker: Where is this text coming from?
And as Abel points out, this 'dowel' certainly seems to refer to these little 'shrines', rather than any figurines etc. they may house.
the text talks about fortified and painted homes looking like clay castles... and they have inspired avant-garde architects... I doubt a dowell could inspire anyone ;-)
En plus grand , il y a les STUPAS, les MARABOUTS, les ALCÔVES à ICÔNES etc ...
Des sortes de petits autels avec des petites statues.
Les LARES Romains ????
