I do think the customer could give more context but they won't unfortunately. As much as I hate approx. translations, I don't have a choice here.

@ Asker Well, it is already a huge help to have a better idea of some of the other items on the list; I presume at some point the more 'electronic' things are grouped together? However, I feel sure your customer COULD help more — to start with, by telling us what kind of machine (or possibly plant) these are parts for? Assuming there ARE other 'electronic' items around, it would be very helpful to see THOSE in conjunction with this particular question; so often, seeing one list item gives a clue to others, or may clarify the meaning of an abbreviation, etc.

A 4–20 mA current loop is a common instrumentation technique; in this instance, the input to [whatever this device is] is capable of sinking (i.e. absorbing, drawing) this signal current, which one assumes is coming from some other device that is the 'source' of it.

Having proper context from your customer would make it possible to arrive at a slicker wording, once one has deciphered the highly telegraphic s/t!

Thank you Tony for your detailed answer. It's what I understood but I could not put it in French. I asked my customer but there's not hing to do, it is a strings list that will remain a strings list....
