Un «pinion» a toujours quelque chose de «crank» (substantif ou verbe). Si rien n'oblige à traduire «crank» ailleurs dans le document, «pignon» pourrait suffire pour traduire «crank pignon». Ainsi, il n'y aurait pas d'erreur possible si «crank» est un substantif alors qu'on le traduit par un verbe, ou vice versa.
À moins, par exemple, qu'un autre «... pinion» dans le contexte oblige à distinguer.
