e.g. "No wonder you believe in evolution; you look like an ape".
.....then, what's the opposite?
i.e. arguing "on topic", i.e. correctly addressing the issue and NOT the person.

Yes, 'ad rem' is the oppostie of 'ad hominem', i.e., 'pertinent, not evasive, to the point'.

Lit., \'to the thing (at issue)\'. \'To the point\' is perhaps the closest literal translation in Englsih. But \'ad rem\' is certainly the opposite of \'ad hominem\' in the parlance of logicians.
