In the current situation it is critical whether the Federal Reserve Board (Fed) is able to influence credit volume, credit conditions and market interest rates as usual, or whether the transmission mechanism of monetary policy through the commercial banking sector is disturbed. To address this question, we compare the development of these variables since autumn 2007 with the development during former phases of monetary easing.

El llamado "quantitative easing" (QE), o "expansión monetaria cuantitativa" (EMC) es otra forma de relajación monetaria que no implica ajustes en el precio del dinero, con lo que se aplica especialmente cuando los tipos de interés están cerca de cero, como es el caso en la actualidad. Se implementa mediante la compra de activos en los mercados, lo cual aumenta la base monetaria y estimula la actividad económica. En Google encontrarás miles de referencias.
