plutôt "train" que "voiture" - cut back/put a brake on/tighten their belts????? (as in train de vie). Somebody's got their lines crossed

pour moi ceci est un équivalent de perdre de la vitesse mais j'avoue ne pas connaître cette expression. j'aurrai cru que cela était une mesure de respect de l'environnement mais d'après le contexte il n'en est rien!
