Does this mean that they will be overhauled?

Interesting Yes, that makes me wonder! Maybe it's slight understood differently, depending on trade, etc.

In the sites I've seen, it seems like a generic term, meaning "fine-tuning/alterations." But I'm no expert in the field! "Ease" may be what is meant, but the term appears quite vague to me.

In my refs, there is a site where ''mise en jeu'' comes first in a list, followed by ''ajustage'' and ''réglage''. This indicates (to me, anyhow) that these are three different operations. This is why I believe it means ''trim'' or, as David suggested, ''ease''.

Comment It's a rather general term, so nothing specific should be in the translation. In regards to "doors" (portes), there is a site where "réglages et garnitures" are put in parentheses after "mise en jeu". Perhaps "fitted and adjusted" may be an ok translation. Or maybe even "fine-tuned".

I am an architect and I worked in France for years. We use this expression to refer to an element of a building which will be reused after being fixed or updated in some fashion. Could be a complete disassembly, storage, renovation, and refinishing, or it could be as minor as tightening some screws and replacing some hinges- the intent is to ensure that the door functions as properly as a new one would and is aesthetically pleasing.

In my experience "mise en jeu" is actually pretty minor- making sure the door/window swings freely and closes correctly, as David Goward noted. "Overhaul" sounds pretty extensive- but if this for a building specification, its best to error on the side of too strict than too loose.
Example sentence:

Doors which are reused will be subject to renovation of hardware and finish.

Thanks Andrew. I was hoping that someone with practical experience of construction and renovation projects might be around! Just wondered whether you thought "overhauled" referred too much to the mechanicall aspects to the exclusion of the aesthetic renovation of the doorsets?

I read it as meaning that if existing door-frames are to be removed and refitted after the renovation, then each frame will be disassembled and stored 'as a set', so every piece can be refitted in its original position. This would be especially necessary if they were hand-crafted, as the parts from one would probably not fit those of another.

Re Asker's note below: whether it's a house or a commercial building the same procedures apply. And by 'storage', I meant, precisely, (temporary) storage pending re-use.

IMHO, Clanola is right in her explanations although I believe that the correct term is "to ease".

Incidentally, I've just had this expression come up in a translation which led me to this entry via a term search.

Thanks David. The usual way of putting it is "ease and adjust", or "easing and adjustment". I would generally understand this not to include replacement of ironmongery, whereas "overhaul", or "renovation" would include that if necessary. so, I am still undecided between your answer and Andrew's.

As they are already "conservés", wouldn't that involve some repetition? Though I do see how the price aspect could apply, wouldn't that best be expressed in a different way and more clearly?
