: No, this is absolutely not about action plans (which would be "plans d'action") – it's about forecasting business/activity levels

First we develop the Business Plan and then define it as a budget, giving responsibilities to managers to control costs/create revenue and then to report against it to show variances as a basis for improvement.
"Forecast" in this context lacks the actual business context of management, control, discussion, responsibility, improvement. The Dynamics, the excitement of budgeting!!

: If it was a budget, why wouldn't they have called it "un budget"? A forecast is not the same thing (though it has similarities)

Right at the moment, this is what my accountant is preparing for me, and AFAIK, this is the nearest equivalent in EN.

My accountant has prepared for me a document referred to as a 'prévisionnel d'activité' — it corresponds pretty closely to what my accountant in the UK used to call a 'cash-flow forecast', though it does contain some additional information as well.

Fair enough, you know best! But this corresponds exactly to the document my accountant has prepared for me... (as part of my overall business plan) / I don't, I'm just going by the only info we have, i.e. the name of the doc.
