French term

prévisionnels d’activité

French to English Bus/Financial Management
etablir des Business Plan et prévisionnels d’activité, animer l’équipe

Does anybody know what is meant by "prévisionnels d’activité" here please.

It is in the context of a manager and what she is responsible for within the company.

Many thanks:)

activity forecasts

"Activité" is often best translated "business", but as it follows business in the same sentence, "activity" forecasts should be fine here.

agree philgoddard : You could leave out the "activity" and just say "business planning and forecasting".

Thanks, Phil
agree joehlindsay : I think in the States we might just say 'business forecasts

Thanks, Joe
neutral Chris Hall : "Business forecasts", as suggested above, sounds much better. Note to Joe: "Business forecasts" is also commonly said in the UK rather than "activity forecasts". / Disagree? It is NEUTRAL - oh dear, maybe you would like to retract that comment...

"Sounds much better" on what basis? Either is acceptable and both mean the same thing in this context.

action plan

The objective of the plan is the most important part. Every plan should spell out your goals. Every objective should specify results and activities that can be easily tracked.

objectives/ goals

action plan/ motivate the team
Peer comment(s):

disagree Rob Grayson : No, this is absolutely not about action plans (which would be "plans d'action") – it's about forecasting business/activity levels

budget

First we develop the Business Plan and then define it as a budget, giving responsibilities to managers to control costs/create revenue and then to report against it to show variances as a basis for improvement.

"Forecast" in this context lacks the actual business context of management, control, discussion, responsibility, improvement. The Dynamics, the excitement of budgeting!!
Peer comment(s):

neutral Rob Grayson : If it was a budget, why wouldn't they have called it "un budget"? A forecast is not the same thing (though it has similarities)

cash-flow forecasts

Right at the moment, this is what my accountant is preparing for me, and AFAIK, this is the nearest equivalent in EN.

My accountant has prepared for me a document referred to as a 'prévisionnel d'activité' — it corresponds pretty closely to what my accountant in the UK used to call a 'cash-flow forecast', though it does contain some additional information as well.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Rob Grayson : Sorry, Tony, but I believe this is off base – this would be "prévisions de trésorerie".//How do you know it corresponds to what your act has prepared without knowing what the document referred to in the question contains?

Fair enough, you know best! But this corresponds exactly to the document my accountant has prepared for me... (as part of my overall business plan) / I don't, I'm just going by the only info we have, i.e. the name of the doc.
