Context:
"L’humain alors n’est plus seulement en trop, d’un excès sur lequel il faudrait s’expliquer et pour lequel il faudrait inventer une place, des médiations (ce fut au fond le rôle de ce qu’on a appelé l’Etat Providence), mais il est tout simplement « jetable »."

I think it sounds better in the plural (excesses), and I provide this third option in order to avoid using \"we\", which is not used in the French version:
