Also, in the context of adhesives, can I use Lcquer for Lack, Lackierung usw. or is "varnish" the more appropriate?

'Lack' has a lot of possible meanings, depending on the context -- it can be lacquer, varnish, enamel, or just plain paint. In the context of printing, this refers to the protective coating that is often applied to the cover of paperback book or brochure, and I think this is called a lacquer coating. In any case, a synthetic resin is used, so 'lac' (or 'shellac) is not appropriate.
Lakierung (as a verb) naturally also depends on the context; it can mean lacquering, varnishing, enamelling, etc, but also just applying/spraying the material in question. As a noun, in your case, you could play safe by just translating it as 'coating.
