I often see this used in the titles of interviews or special features. Every time I spend 15 minutes on this one word trying to think of a catchy way to translate it. I'm hoping to get some ideas here for a glossary entry that I can go back to in the future.
Here are some quick examples from Google of what I mean:
北条氏の本質に迫る
宮坂英弌氏の素顔に迫る
記憶のメカニズムに迫る!
突撃レポート ソーラーシステムの謎に迫る!

reveal
迫る means like approaching to somethinig but with one's intention to "reveal" what's in there, i.e. truth, secret, hot news, etc.
Example sentence:
マイケルジャクソンの死の謎に迫る!
1 day 5 mins
to approach; to draw near; to be imminent
迫る is Godan verb with ru ending, Intransitive verb
Reference:
2 days 6 hrs
get to the bottom of
I think the first two suggestions are good. I just want to add "get to the bottom of" for finding out a true reason/cause for a bad situation; it can be used when translating somehting like 事件/病気の真相に迫る.
Note from asker:
Good one |
