student with a disabled registration
Francesca, I am sure that if you post this in the Portuguese-English pair, you will get more options.

: "Trancada" is not disabled. The "trancamento" is a choice of the student to suspend their own registration. It's optional and does not impair their registration in other subjects or in future semesters/periods. It's not disabling whatsoever.

"Disabled" does not mean "bloqued". In this case it is to temporary deprive the usage or power to be in force. It is a matter of registration in a period or term, not about subjects.

Request to Suspend Studies
There may be occasions when you need to apply to take a temporary break from your studies. This may be because you need to take a period of maternity or adoption leave or because a medical condition is preventing you from working on your thesis.
If your studies are affected in this way then you can apply for up to 12 months suspension of study across your degree course. Your request will need the support of your supervisor and if granted puts your studies on hold

Discussion
THE STUDENT TOOK A BREAK IN STUDIES IN FEBRUARY.......
Break in Study of Up to Two Years
1.
The Common Awards Scheme regulations
permit a student to suspend studies
for a maximum of two years in total
during their programme of study. This
may be in one period of two years,
or non-consecutive shorter periods (see
paragraph 2) that add up to a
total of two years or less.

There are two types of "trancamento" - In one of them, the student suspends the entire semester, in which case Gilmar's suggestion fits well, IMO.
In the second type, the student suspends only certain subjects, and remains studying regularly in the other subjects.
In both cases, it is a choice of the student to suspend the semester or the subjects. And in both cases, I think suspension applies, since the student will resume the course one semester later or take the "locked" subjects again in the future periods.
However, just to make sure, there is no "disabling" of any kind. It's an optional move of the student for personal reasons, which does not require justification, and does not disable any rights of that student. On the contrary, it's a right "enabled" to the student, to have the choice of being absent for a while or dropping subjects they don't feel they will be able to take in the current period.
