Spanish term

Agua-vida

Non-PRO Spanish to English Social Sciences Government / Politics Water supplies - Human rights
SPAIN. A category, from an article about water management and New Water Culture. The hyphen is making me dither about whether it should be Water-life or Life-water.

• Agua-vida.

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (2): Beatriz Ramírez de Haro, AllegroTrans

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

AllegroTrans Jan 21, 2021:
@ Neil Personally I don't think you need to get focussed on the specific two words. This is basically a heading, so I think you have a degree of licence. As long as the heading fits the paragraph and reflects the vital nature of water, I think you will acquit yourself. Slàinte!
Marie Wilson Jan 20, 2021:
Vital water sounds good IMO.
neilmac (asker) Jan 20, 2021:
Also Another option I'm considering is "Vital water", although that is also apparently a brand name as well.
neilmac (asker) Jan 20, 2021:
@Allegro As a Scot, but not a whisky drinker (Uisce beatha/ Aqua vitae) is sort of contributing to my quandary. I'm actually doing another job now, so I'll come back to the water thing in a few days, but the suggestions so far are too long for my liking. I'm probably just going to call it Life Water (without the hyphen) despite the possibility of confusion with company brand names.

Marie Wilson Jan 19, 2021:
"El agua-vida es solo el mínimo vital que debe ser gratuito para los que no puedan pagarla". Maybe better to use a term already in use.

I think I understand your issue. Whether it is "Water-Life" or "Life Water" (which I probably would not use), I beleive it could lend to confusion. I would be inclined to use something else, perhaps "Water and Life".

Re "Agua-ciudadanía / Agua-economía / Agua-delito". [Neil, so why didn't you say so before?]. LOL.

There is a concept, based on research called "water citizenship". I will leave the others then for others to give their opinions.

Water Citizenship: Negotiating Water Rights and Contesting Water Culture in the Peruvian Andes
We conclude that **water citizenship** emerges from the particular ways water authorities and water users defi ne rights to access and use water, on the one hand, and obligations to contribute to the construction and maintenance of water infrastructure and pay for the use of water, on the other.
