En la frase "El adoptando menor de 12 años, si tuviere suficiente juicio"

Conozco la expresión habitual "being of sound and disposing mind" o "capable" pero al tratarse del "juicio" de un niño, entiendo se refiere a madurez, sabe alguien por favor cómo se traduciría en este contexto?
